“Ireland has joined the EU Schengen Information System which will see information on crime exchanged with other member States.

The system helps make Europe more secure by allowing police and border guards to log and share information on people and property related to criminal activity”.

Ireland operates SIS, but as it has chosen not to join the Schengen area, it cannot issue or access Schengen-wide alerts for refusing entry and stay into the Schengen area.
