It promises to be a case of ‘From Russia With Love’ in Dublin this Valentine’s Day, when Councillor Mannix Flynn, representing the Lord Mayor, launches the Dublin Festival of Russian Culture at Dublin City Gallery, The Hugh Lane, on Saturday, 14th February at 1.30pm. The Festival will open with a concert of Russian classical music at the Gallery and follow with a week-long programme of events in various locations throughout the city from 14th to 22nd February 2015.
Now in its 6th year, the Festival is a celebration of the very strong Russian culture and community here in Dublin and showcases music, dance, art and history in a wide range of events. Concerts, literary talks, competitions, music workshops, exhibitions and lively performances are just some of the events taking place during the week.
“The Festival of Russian Culture offers Dubliners a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the delights, wonders and mysteries of the great Russian culture. From classical music to art to family events there is plenty for everyone to enjoy” said Councillor Flynn. The Festival is part of Dublin City Council’s programme of year-round family friendly events.

This week, the Juncker Commission is 100 days in office. Work has started on the Commission’s 10 priorities and today they set out what they think the main achievements are so far:
• Getting governments to agree on a 315 billion investment package for European infrastructure projects
• Putting a new emphasis on growth and flexibility when applying the rules about government debts and deficits
• dropping proposals that are stuck in negotiations for too long (The 2015 work programme has 23 new initiatives and 80 pieces of pending legislation that will be scrapped)
• Being more open about what’s happening in the US trade negotiations (TTIP).
